It was talking about Robert.
Robert’s face changed.
“That’s impossible.””
David stared at him.
“Is it?””
Robert looked at Margaret.
“You believe this?””
Margaret didn’t answer.
And that silence said everything.
Robert suddenly moved toward the laptop.
“I need to see the rest.””
David stepped in front of him.
“No.””
“Move.””
“No.””
Robert’s expression hardened.
“You have no idea what you’re dealing with.””
David held his ground.
“Then tell me.””
Robert looked at him.
For a moment, nobody moved.
Then Robert whispered:
“Your father wasn’t protecting the necklace.””
David frowned.
“What?””
“He was protecting you.””
The room froze.
Robert looked at the pendant around Margaret’s neck.
“Because if the final file opens…”
His voice dropped.
“…you’ll find out why your father was willing to lose everything to keep one person alive.””
Margaret’s face went pale.
David turned.
“One person?””
The laptop screen flashed.
A final hidden file appeared.
No title.
Only a date.
The date of David’s birth.
And beneath it, one sentence:
*THE TRUTH ABOUT DAVID’S ORIGIN.*
David stared.
Nobody breathed.
Then Evelyn whispered:
“Your father never told you.””
David looked at her.
“Told me what?””
Evelyn’s eyes filled with tears.
“What you really are to this family.””
The screen began loading.
And for the first time that night, Margaret looked afraid.
The file loaded slowly.
Too slowly.
Everyone stood frozen, watching the small circle spin on the laptop screen.
David felt like he was waiting for something much bigger than a video.
A confession.
A betrayal.
A memory.
Something that would divide his life into before and after.
He looked at his mother.
Margaret was staring at the screen.
Not with fear.
With sadness.
And that scared him more.
“Mom.””
She didn’t respond.
“Mom, what is this?””
Margaret finally looked at him.
Her eyes were wet.
“I hoped you would never have to see it this way.””
David swallowed.
“See what?””
Before she could answer, Robert spoke.
“You need to understand something.””
Everyone turned.
Robert stood near the dining table, his confidence gone.
“This isn’t what you think.””
David looked at him.
“You’ve said that three times tonight.””
“Because it’s true.””
“Then stop explaining and start telling me the truth.””
Robert opened his mouth.
Nothing came out.
That was the answer.
Thomas stepped closer to the laptop.
“The file is ready.””
David looked back at the screen.
A video appeared.
The date was twenty-seven years earlier.
The year David was born.
His heart started beating faster.
Thomas pressed play.
The screen showed a hospital room.
The image quality was old.
Grainy.
But clear enough.
A younger Margaret sat beside a hospital bed.
She looked exhausted.
Happy.
And beside her was Richard.
David’s father.
He looked younger too.
But his face carried the same gentle expression David remembered from childhood.
David whispered:
“Dad.””
The room became quiet.
Richard in the video held a small bundle in his arms.
A newborn baby.
David stopped breathing.
His father looked into the camera.
“This is David.””
Margaret covered her mouth.
The video continued.
“He is the greatest thing that ever happened to us.””
David’s eyes filled.
He had seen pictures from that day.
But never this.
Never moving.
Never hearing his father’s voice.
Richard looked down at the baby.
“We wanted a child for years.””
Margaret smiled in the recording.
“And then he came.””
David watched silently.
For a moment, the pain disappeared.
For a moment, it was just his parents.
Just love.
Then Richard’s expression changed.
The video jumped forward.
Different day.
Different room.
Richard sat at a desk.
The same desk from the earlier recording.
He looked older.
Serious.
“David,” he said to the camera.
“If you’re seeing this part, then you already know something is wrong.””
David leaned forward.
His father continued.
“There is something about your birth that we kept private.””
Margaret closed her eyes.
David turned.
“You knew about this?””
She nodded slowly.
“I did.””
“Why didn’t you tell me?””
“Because your father wanted to.””
“And he never did.””
Her voice broke.
“He tried.””
The video continued.
Richard looked directly into the camera.
“David is my son.””
David relaxed slightly.
Then Richard continued.
“But not because of blood.””
The room went silent.
David stared at the screen.
“What?””
The video played on.
“Before anyone misunderstands, I need David to know the truth.””
Richard took a breath.
“Being a father is not about biology. It is about who stays. Who protects. Who loves.””
David looked confused.
His father’s words should have comforted him.
But they raised a thousand questions.
Richard continued.
“David was born into a difficult situation.””
The screen flickered.
“His biological parents could not raise him.””
David stopped moving.
Margaret looked at him.
“David…”
“No.””
His voice was quiet.
But firm.
“Let me hear it.””
The video continued.
“I met David when he was only three months old.””
Richard smiled sadly.
“From the moment I held him, I knew.””
His eyes filled slightly.
“He was my son.””
David looked down.
The room felt distant.
Like he was watching someone else’s life.
Someone else’s family.
The video continued.
“But there are people who know the truth.””
Richard’s expression became serious.
“People who believe blood matters more than love.””
Thomas looked at Robert.
David noticed.
“What does he mean?””
Nobody answered.
The video continued.
“I protected David’s identity because someone tried to use it against him.””
David looked up.
“Use it?””
Richard nodded in the recording.
“There are people who would benefit if David disappeared from this family.””
Margaret whispered:
“Oh, Richard.””
David turned toward her.
“Who?””
She looked away.
“Mom.””
Before she could answer, the video changed.
A new scene appeared.
Richard and Margaret were sitting together.
They looked tense.
The camera was hidden somewhere.
Someone had secretly recorded them.
Richard spoke first.
“Robert knows.””
Margaret looked frightened.
“He knows?””
“Yes.””
“What does he want?””
Richard looked down.
“The company.””
David’s eyes moved toward Robert.
Robert immediately shook his head.
“No.””
The video continued.
“He believes David has no legal claim because he isn’t my biological son.””
