On the seventh morning, I waited until Luca’s car disappeared. I removed the tape he had repeatedly told me not to touch, looked directly at the injury he had discouraged me from seeing, and trusted what my own body was telling me.
Then I called a cab.
A stranger drove me to the hospital. A triage nurse recognized the emergency immediately, Dr. Marcus asked the questions Luca had spent a week preventing me from asking, and Detective Hall began uncovering the truth hidden inside our garage.
For seven days, I had believed tomorrow would finally bring the help I needed.
I survived because, on the seventh day, I stopped waiting for tomorrow.
And I learned something I would never surrender again: when my own body tells me something is wrong, I do not need anyone else’s permission to listen.
